Hutchinson Cooperative’s decision to buy the former Food N Fuel convenience store/gas station at 600 Adams St. S.E. was based on opportunity, according to Dean Brehmer, longtime manager of the co-op’s original Highway 7 West service station.
It gives the co-op a store on the opposite side of Hutchinson to serve people who may not have driven to the Highway 7 location in the past. After remodeling the store, Hutchinson Co-op reopened the Adams Street location as a Cenex C-store in late May under the management of Lee Thunstrom, a former HTI employee for 31 years.
“We’ve gotten a lot of compliments on the cleanliness of the store,” Thunstrom said last week.
In addition to gasoline, the C-store will carry the typical convenience store selection of groceries. Also available are ice, lottery tickets, a propane tank exchange and a car wash.
The co-op’s new location is open to the public, as well as cooperative members. It is open from 5 a.m. to 11 p.m. Monday through Friday, and from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
