Geoffrey Rush (left) at the "Pirates
of the Caribbean 3" premiereLast year, we saw Johnny Depp's first on-screen singing role as "Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street." Next year, his "Pirates of the Caribbean" co-star Geoffrey Rush will also appear in a musical.
"Bran Nue Dae" (is that Australian for Brand New Day?) is slated for a 2009 release and will star Rush as a missionary priest, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The film is set Down Under in the 1960s and is described by THR as a "coming-of-age musical comedy that celebrates family, forgiveness and aboriginal reconciliation."
Rush, more simply, calls it a "kick arse road movie." I love road movies and I like Geoffrey Rush, so I'm looking forward to this one. But, I'd be surprised if this movie ever plays in Hutchinson, unless it's released during Oscar season. This doesn't sound like your typical "High School Musical."
Why is the “Pirates of the Caribbean” trilogy the coolest action fantasy franchise since “Star Wars?” Because the POTC team learned from the best.
