Looking at Section 2AAAA Football (updated)

Here is how things are shaping up in Section 2AAAA (football) with one week remaining. This will be updated Thursday.

1. Mankato West (Record: 7-0 Points: 51 Potential: 59)
The Scarlets have clinched the No. 1 seed in 2AAAA. West, ranked No. 1 in 4A, plays top ten ranked Owatonna for the Big Nine Conference title Wednesday. The Scarlets are equally good on the ground as they are through the air - scary.

2. Hutchinson (Record: 5-2 Points: 41 Potential: 48)
With a win over Red Wing, or a loss by Waconia Wednesday, the Tigers would clinch the No. 2 seed and at least two home games. The Tigers have won four games and are playing some of their best football this season. Red Wing is 0-7 after losing 50-6 to New Prague.

3. Waconia (Record: 6-1 Points: 40 Potential: 46)
The Wildcats have secured at least a No. 3 seeding with a win over Mound-Westonka and a Marshall loss to Luverne (which it received zero points for the loss). Baring an upset, it looks as Waconia would travel to Hutch in the 2AAAA semifinals. Running game vs runing game.

4. Marshall (Record: 6-1 Points: 34 Potential: 41)
The Tigers lost to former 2A No. 1 ranked Luverne 21-7 Friday. That one hurts. The Tigers will be the No. 4 seed and might have to play Mankato East again - a team that upset them in the same 4/5 matchup a year ago.

5. Mankato East (Record: 2-5 Points: 26 Potential: 34)
The Cougars have lost four straight games, but still could end up as the No. 5 seed. If the Cougars can beat Rochester John Marshall (thus earning eight points), no matter what Willmar would do, East would get the fifth seed. Or, if both East and Willmar lose, East would have the advantage by a point.

6. Willmar (Record: 2-5 Points: 26 Potential: 33)
The Cardinals could finish anywhere from fifth to seventh. Luckily, they have a very winnable St. Cloud Apollo this week.

7. New Ulm (Record: 3-4 Points: 24 Potential: 30)
The Eagles need a win over Blue Earth Area (they already lost to them) and a loss by either East or Willmar to move up a spot or two. New Ulm could finish fifth with a win and both of them to lose.

8. Mound-Westonka (Record: 0-7 Points: 10 Potential: 16)
The White Hawks will be the No. 8 seed regardless of what happens in the final week against 3A Zimmerman.
