Prep Football Recap: Week one

I'm going to try a new feature this year on my blog. I'm going to have small recaps and scores from all the Missota teams and the Section 2AAAA teams as well as a few other notable games.

So, here we go:

Missota (2-6 record, ouch)
The winners:
Farmington 41, Grand Rapids 13
* Can't find anything on the game yet.
Shakopee 22, St. Paul Central 12
* The Sabers went winless a year ago, but won in week one over a weak opponent from the St. Paul City Conference. Willie Dellwo (113 yards and a TD) and Zach McBeain (89 yards and a TD) led Shakopee on offense.

The losers:
Glencoe-Silver Lake 20, Hutchinson 7
* You've read the story.
Stevens Point (Wisc.) 26, Prior Lake 10
* The Lakers only rushed for 70 yards against the Wisconsin school, but QB TJ Larson threw for 130 yards and a touchdown. Prior Lake threw the ball 21 times.
Austin 27, Red Wing 8
Auston led 27-0 before the Wingers finally broke through late in the fourth quarter. Red Wing scored on a 70-yard run by quarterback Dan Roschen, who led his team with 86 yards on the ground.
Faribault 32, New Prague 21
* QB Sam Dittberner threw for 91 yards and a TD, but also led the team in rushing with 75 yards and a TD. He threw 22 passes in the game.
Mankato West 35, Northfield 13
* Cody Schmidt, who is hoping for 2,000 yards this season, ran for 150 and two touchdowns as the No. 3 ranked Scarlets won easily on the road. Northfield QBs completed only six of 15 passes.
Hill-Murray 24, Holy Angels 21
* Javan Rogers ran for 117 yards on 29 carries and one touchdown in the losing effort for the Stars. QB Danny Shields only completed three of 10 passes. Holy Angels returned two defensive touchdowns.

Section 2AAAA
Bemidji 25, Willmar 12
* The Lumberjacks scored 18 unanswered points in the fourth quarter in the first meeting between the two schools.
Marshall 35, New Ulm 14
* The Marshall rushing attack was nearly unstoppable as the Tigers rushed for 411 yards and four touchdowns. Senior Trey Welch led the Tigers with 190 yards and one touchdown.
Mankato East 28, Detroit Lakes 14
* Mankato East junior Kenneth King carried 35 times for 301 yards and two TDs in a 28-14 victory at Detroit Lakes.
Orono 30 Waconia 7
* G-SL plays Orono in week three. Wildcats had a tough graduation.
DC 43 Mound-Westonka 21
* Kurt Aho, DC ran for 183 yards rushing, 4 TD’s as the Chargers welcomed back the Whitehawks to the Wright Cty Conf.

Other games
BLH 38 MLBO 24
* Joe Nutter, BLH ran for 129 yards rushing, 2 TD’s. New coach Keith Klawitter picks up his first win.
Sibley East 20 GFW 16
* Ian Berg, SE 2 Touchdowns, including the game winner late in the 4th quarter. Former Hutchinson assistant coach Chuck Hartman wins his varsity debut with the Wolverines, who were 0-9 in 2007.
Litchfield 32 Watertown-Mayer 7
* No problem for the Dragons in the opener as Dominic Devine ran for 3 touchdowns.
ACGC 49 Morris 22
* BLH transfer Deron Buboltz, ACGC, had a nice debut, rushing for 163 yards, 3 TD’s. Kurtis Huisman, ACGC-128 yards rushing, 3 TD’s.
McLeod West 22 Springfield 19
* Zach Wieweck, MW-Game Winning TD in the 4th quarter
