The National Hockey League’s (NHL) Minnesota Wild today unveiled the team’s new mascot, Nordy, this afternoon at a public event on the Xcel Energy Center ice. Nordy, the newest member of the Team of 18,000, hails from way up yonder and is a lifelong resident of The State of Hockey. Born in Eveleth, Minn. he was raised with a stick and a pair of blades and cut his teeth on the ponds and lakes throughout the Iron Range. He now resides at Xcel Energy Center and calls the Capital City home.

“It’s something that we’ve been looking at for quite a while, and the pieces fell together this summer after engaging some of our fans in the process,” Wild Vice President, Brand Marketing John Maher said. “Fans will see Nordy at community appearances, hospital visits and kids activities, and occasionally at Wild home games.”

Nordy brings a wicked slap shot and a passion for the game of hockey that only those from the North Star state can appreciate. Holding true to his Nordic heritage, Nordy is rugged yet huggable and loves to visit with kids. He looks forward to putting his unique skills to great use both on and off the ice for many years to come. Among other places, he’ll be seen at schools, birthday parties, parades and local hospitals. To request an appearance, visit www.wild.com or e-mail Nordy at nordy@wild.com .

“There are many community events and appearances that we would like to have a presence at, but because of the demands of the NHL schedule and the sheer number of appearance requests we receive during the season, we haven’t been able to participate,” said Director of Community Partnerships Brad Bombardir. “We feel that we’ll be able to fulfill many more community and kid related requests by adding a Wild mascot.”

Nordy will make his first public appearance at the 2008 Minnesota Wild St. Paul Chamber Face-Off Luncheon on Tuesday, Oct. 7 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in St. Paul.
