Today as I was driving to the store. And I seen a side-by-side atv Yamaha Rhino sitting in the parking lot. There was no trailer or nothing. Someone drove this thing and parked in front of the liquor store. I know the city of hutch can drive these types of vehicles around. But wouldn't you need a special license to drive this thing around in town? I know this wasn't no city vehicle, because most of theirs are john deere gators.

As long as it is licensed...
Back to page topAs long as it is licensed and is street legal(has lights, blinkers, etc.) You can drive them on the streets.
I concur with TW. As long...
Back to page topI concur with TW. As long as they are street legal, and they are licensed they can drive in Hutchinson for now. I heard some grumblings though that they are looking at getting an ordinance which probably will be similar to Snowmobiles where you won't be able to drive them on streets unless you are traveling directly out of the city. (It's just what I heard though, so I can't be positive.)
-I believe you need to have seatbelts too, for it to be considered street legal, unless it's a classic car!
I think everyone knows that...
Back to page topI think everyone knows that a street legal vehicle is legal to be on the street as long as it is licensed. Rhino's aren't street legal. This is taken directly out of a Rhino's owners manual. "This vehicle is designed and manufactured for off-road use only. It is illegal to operate this vehicle on any public street, road, or highway. Such use is prohibited by law."
ANY vehicle can be made...
Back to page topANY vehicle can be made street legal if it meets the requirements of that state.
A stock Rhino is NOT street legal, but if you add blinkers, a horn, legal tires etc it WILL be street legal and you can go through inspection to be able to register it in most states.
The grey area is that UTV's (Rhinos etc) are not considered ATV's, by most states regulations. An ATV has to be less then 50 inches wide have over 50cc and weigh under 600 lbs.
This leaves one to believe that it should either be considered in the same class ad a golf cart (which has no reg and legal for the road) or why not the same as a garden or farm tractor with a SMV triangle on the back?
Personally I use my Rhino for work around my property, and I travel to my other properties over the road, I have not been stopped. in CT it would be considered a Utility Vehicle (UTV) same as a golf cart I guess...
