Tigers Girls' Hockey

Hey gang~

I was able to make it to my first Hutch hockey game tonight as the Tiger girls took on Mound-Westonka. I was at the Dome covering the GSL/Litch football game, so I got back into Hutch during the middle of the second period.

Wow, was the parking lot full. The crowd was very nice as well, although if we could start cheers, or if the students came together, they might be able to spark the team.

Hutch lost 4-1, but played much better than they did against New Ulm Tuesday. Sophomore Ellen Lenz scored the team's only goal on a tipped shot from sophomore Laura Carlson.

Eighth-grader Zandra Floeder made a case to start Saturday, making 28 saves on 31 shots. Whoever is in net, they will face a Breck team that had 76 shots and 15 goals against Litch/D-C. Scary.

Tonight's outcome might have been 9-1, but don't be fooled, the Tigers are making strides from the start of the season. I really see a lot of improvement from some of the seventh- and eighth-graders that are playing some huge minutes.

The two that really stand out on my mind are defensemen Lauren Kirchoff and Claire Cripps. They really have made a nice team on the blue line. I think they learned a few things tonight playing against Ambroz (#10) and Kilpatrick (#7).

Eighth-grade defensemen Melanie Ljungren and goaltender Zandra Floeder have bright futures this season for the Tigers.

14-0 Holy Angels tonight at Burich Arena. Stars forward Lauren Smith scored five goals in the win. The Stars beat New Prague, 6-0, so this team is for real. They are one of the top teams in the state.

You just have to move on and play hard against a winnable Prior Lake team Thursday.

Hutchinson scored a goal in the third period to salvage a 2-2 tie with Red Wing Saturday afternoon in girls' hockey. The Tigers beat the Wingers, 7-0, Friday evening. More tomorrow when I see a box score.

Now MaxPreps says Hutch won 3-1.....???? Anybody who was there that can shed some light?

Nothing on Minnesota-Scores, Star Tribune, Pioneer Press or Republican Eagle (Red Wing's paper) sites.
