Hutchinson's New Busing Rule

Filed under:

I am wondering if the Hutchinson School system, knows that,in today's world, many kids have split households. All they are going to do is put the kids more in the middle of the two parents. Whether it is court ordered for the kids to go back & forth to the different households or not, is first of all, not any of the school systems business. For some parents have the kid(s)ride the bus to the other parents house, makes it easier on this kids, so the parents don't argue or have to see on another. Now, the school is going to say the kids can only ride the bus,at one of the households, so please tell me which household should this be? The bus has to stop for the other kids in the neighborhood anyways so what if another kids gets on or off, at the stop.

So, may I ask whoever came up with this brilliant idea, what right do you have to put all these innocent children more in between a already bad situation. So am to tell my children "Oh I am sorry but you have to just be at dad's or mom's you can't go back & forth because the school has decided that it was to inconvient for them.

They say it is because it is too confusing for the bus drivers. Well, I have talked to some bus drivers & they don't have a problem with kids that ride every other week on there bus. So, who really has the problem?

It is better for children in this situation to go back an forth to each parents house.

I hope more people are upset abut this & decide to speak out about this.

Lifesducky, Superintendent...

Lifesducky,

Superintendent Daron VanderHeiden did address the issue of children of divorced parents at the board meeting in which the transportation policy was discussed.

From what I understood, there would be exceptions to the "one pick up, one drop off" location rule in these situations. When a parent registers his or her child or children for District 423 transportation, explain the situation and I think they will be accomodating.

I have called the central office & they first asked if the going back & forth is court ordered or "just something that we came up with", first of all I don't think this is any of there business, secondly, I have to turn in either the court order or I have to write something up if I don't have a court order. Then, it will not be a guarantee that my children can ride the bus, he told me it depends on the bus's situation. It in not like they need to make a extra stop or anything there are other kids that get picked up & dropped off at any stop.

I have been emplyed as a BUS DRIVER.
If your child rides a school bus and is elementary school (K-5) the Disrict office will ask what residence the child will be picked up at / dropped off.
This is how it works.
The district office will make designated stop changes difficult on you.
If your child needs a drop off at your residence this week, and his father's residence next week... your child will probably be put on a Special Needs school bus, because those bus drivers can make individual stops as differing from regular school buses...that only make stops designated by the school superintendent.

Be thankful that Hutchinson residents pay taxes that support the Transportation Department. Many school districts do not have transportation.

I am not asking for them to make a extra stop, all I want is my kids to be able to get on & off at the normal bus stop for each household. It is not a huge request, I am not asking for anything special. It is just like someone that works at HTI or 3m and has the AWS work schedule the kids won't be at the same bus stop each day. How do they plan to work that one. They are switching more then every other week. I would think more people would be fustrated with this whole thing. Neither of my kids ride the bus in the morning at either place so it just in the afternoons that it will be a problem & the school system doesn't seem to care. I am very thankful that we have the bussing system, but sometimes they come up with some dumb rules is all that I am saying.
