Bald Eagle and owl sightings
February 16, 2007 - 12:37pm — Matt McMillan
Have you spotted any bald eagles or owls recently? Did you get a photo? If so, please post where you spotted the bird, time of day and any other info. A bald eagle flew over Washington Avenue West in Hutchinson last week at mid-day. It was a mature bird with a nice white head. It was flying west to east straight down the street, and flew right over the Washington Avenue and Main Street intersection. I watched it from the window at the Leader office. I believe the eagles come into town this time of year because of the bit of open water by the dam. Please share your eagle or owl sighting story and or photos here. Some readers might also have seen nests.

I saw this guy: but that...

but that was on a rerun of the Muppet Show...
But, seriously, I've heard of some sightings near
that car dealership west of town, by the DNR office.

Two owls landed in a big ash...
Back to page topTwo owls landed in a big ash tree by the river across from the sanctuary in Hutchinson. It was a week or so ago at dusk. They looked like great-horned owls. A bigger one flew over to the other owl and knocked it off its branch. It flew out of sight. The remaining owl ruled its roost for about 10 minutes and then swooped away. I've also heard the "who...who...who" of an owl after dark. There must be a few owls around Hutchinson.
