Breakfast with the 'The Exorcist'

» Read similar stories filed under:

Good morning, Cupcake!Good morning, Cupcake! Here's a rather weird promotion. The Georgetown Ritz-Carlton is offering a tourist package for pampered horror buffs.

It's called, “The Exorcist 35th Anniversary Package” and for prices starting at $649, you can enjoy historic Georgetown village, near Washington, D.C., where much of “The Exorcist” was filmed.

The package includes:

• a Premier Guest room or one-bedroom suite,
• a full American breakfast for two in the hotel's restaurant or in-room dining (no word on whether that includes projectile pea soup),
• a copy of “The Exorcist” on DVD,
• a disposable camera,
• complimentary use of the fitness center, sauna and steam room,
• and your choice of the morning newspaper (it's gotta be the Hutchinson Leader, no doubt).

This sounds like it could be a charming getaway for the well-heeled, although a complete tour should include a jaunt to northern Iraq, where Father Merrin discovers that freaky demon sculpture.

Ideally, you'd get a souvenir T-shirt if you make it back in one piece.

mmmmmmm yummy, i think i'll have to order some green pea soup.

i thought the movie was a little creepy when i watched it years ago. it's because of the exorcist that the so called "scary" movies that were made after it didn't spook me one little bit. i hear people from the ages of 16-30 talk about how scared they were when the saw "the grudge", "the sixth sense" or "scary movie" for the first time. WEEEEAAAAAK. i remember watching scary movie and getting upset that people didn't notice that when the camera backs up slowly and the music starts to pick up, that someone was going to jump out of somewhere...so predictable. i enjoyed the 6th sense very much along with stir of echos. i liked stir of echos much more. but that's probaly because i saw that one first. kind of like when i saw deep impact before armageddon. anyways....

i read the exorcist about 6 years ago, and the book was disturbing. there are things that were discribed that i would have been better off not knowing. whenever i talk to someone who is thinking about reading the exorcist, i warn them. it's sort of like passing that point of no return. once you read it, you can't unread it. those images and descriptions are there forever.

anyone up for a road trip this summer to georgetown?

Aura Lee: I've never read "The Exorcist" but I read William Peter Blatty's sequel, "Legion," which was adapted for the screen as "The Exorcist III." It’s a great book and I highly recommend it. It’s both creepy and intellectual. The movie's not bad, either. Not as great as the original "The Exorcist," but pretty decent as sequels go.

thanks, Jorge, i'll be sure to check out legion. i haven't seen any of the sequels for the exorcist so the book should be a real treat.

i forgot to mention the exorcism of emily rose, i think that's what it was called. that movie didn't scare me, but it did make the hairs on the back of my neck stand up. that hasn't happened to me since march of 1993 when i was crawling on my belly across the lake because the ice was cracking.
