Hide the cutlery,
it's Michael Shannon. Here is one horror movie I can't wait to see. "My Son, My Son, What Have Ye Done?" promises to be weird and creepy as all get-out.
Directed and co-written by Werner Herzog ("Rescue Dawn," "Grizzly Man") this film is loosely based on a real-life San Diego murder case. A graduate student who was cast in the lead role of the Greek tragedy Orestes became obsessed with the play and decided it'd be a good idea to kill his mom with a sword.
In case you're wondering how weird this movie will get, consider this: It's produced by David Lynch ("Mulholland Drive," "Twin Peaks") and stars Michael Shannon, the lovable crazy guy from such films as "Revolutionary Road" and "Bug."
Other cast members include creepy horror veterans Brad Dourif ("The Exorcist III," "Alien: Resurrection") and Udo Kier ("Blade," "Blood for Dracula").
The film began shooting last month in and around the area where the crime actually took place. Reuters reports the film is being shot guerrilla-style on digital video.
"My Son, My Son, What Have Ye Done?" appears to be slated for a 2010 release. I'll be following this one like a hawk.
