'Transformers' posters — more than meets the eye
April 18, 2007 - 12:53pm — Jorge Sosa
Collider.com has revealed new poster art for "Transformers," Michael Bay's next summer action blockbuster. You can see the poster featuring Optimus Prime right here. This is the poster featuring Megatron. The observant blogger Frosty at Collider.com noticed what looks like alien script carved into the metal around the robots' eyes. I don't know if those are calligraphic characters just invented for the movie, or if those are Japanese kanji or some other Asian language. Can somebody smarter than me identify that writing? Here are the high-resolution versions of the Optimus Prime and Megatron posters, which might save you some squinting. (Jorge Sosa is a staff writer for the Hutchinson Leader. Apparently there is no one...
Back to page topApparently there is no one smarter than you Jorge.
I work for an international company who has ties in the Asia Pacific. We contacted Tawainese (Mandarin and Chinese languages), Japanese, and Korean. Not one of them could confirm the writing.
With over 30,000 views from an array of cultures, if this was a "real" symbol or writing, I would assume there would have been responses. I will keep digging to see what I can find.
I might have to speak with Optimus himself.
B@ss Doctor: This poster...

This poster came out before the movie and in the movie, you see this script used pretty extensively.
It's even used in the subtitles!
I'll call it Transformer language, for lack of a better term, and it was probably just made up some graphic designer to give geeks like myself something to obsess over.
