I'm having a hard time picking a favorite movie from last year.
Some years it seems like Hollywood serves up nothing but stinkers, but 2007 was chock full of great films.
To alleviate the burden of picking just one favorite, I'm breaking out my favorites in several categories. Kind of like the Oscars, except the winners get jack squat, aside from dubious bragging rights.
A pair of JacksBest movie starring Johnny Depp
“Sweeney Todd” was the darkest musical I've ever seen, which isn't saying much. They could've called it “Singin' in the Rain ... OF BLOOD! MUHAHAHAHA!” I loved it.
Best movie starring a monkey
Sure, Johnny Depp headlined “Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End” but we all know the real star was the other Jack.
Best movie in which a horde of zombies gets chopped to bits by whirling helicopter blades
Normally there isn't too much competition here, but 2007 had two movies in this category — “Grindhouse: Planet Terror” and “28 Weeks Later.” I loved both movies, but the execution of this idea in “28 Weeks Later” was simply a lot cooler.
Best movie in which a woman has her amputated leg replaced with a machine gun
Again, there's usually not too much competition in this category. But Disney's “Ratatouille” deserves the top honor here. Just kidding. I wanted to see if you were actually paying attention. “Grindhouse: Planet Terror” wins by default.
So, what were your top picks in 2007? “Superbad?” “Saw IV?” Or maybe you actually liked “Evan Almighty?”

My fave was "August Rush". I'm a sucker for movies about music and/or dancing.
However, I still haven't seen American Gangster, No Country For Old Men, The Golden Compass, Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, There Will Be Blood, The Bucket List, Ocean's Thirteen, or The Bourne Ultimatum.

sort of spoiler alert so don't read the rest if you are going to see it.......
i'm still mad about the ending. the movie moved really slow but for some reason kept me interested. i've been reading on the internet about how great the movie was because of it's symbolism and other artsy bullcrap excuse as to why they didn't have a real ending. what a waste of good movie. i'm glad i rented it at mcdonalds and i didn't watch it in the theater. i hate when hollywood uses the "art" card to justify the garbage they put out. i enjoyed the movie until the end. it's kind of like watching a baseball game go into the 10th inning and then the upmire comes out to call the game because it'll make you think about who would have won the game.
oh, by the way, i heard the coolest thing yesterday about a new movie coming out in 2009. it's going to be the most exciting movie in 50 years. i heard there are going to be many great actors and actresses in it and will feature some of the best music from 70's. it's going to sell out worldwide and is expected to change the way go about our daily lives. it's called............
