i wonder if the shooter was from stewart and was shooting at someone from brownton.......or maybe the person getting shot at had an rv in their driveway and the person shooting lived next door and didn't like it

Regarding the search on Friday (July 30): Doug Hanneman, the Leader's editor, spoke with Hutchinson Police Chief Dan Hatten Monday morning.

Speaking of the incident, Hatten said, "It's still under investigation in conjunction with the McLeod County Sheriff's Office. We're still investigating all aspects of this incident, including the validity of the call."

I understand it is not illegal to fire a gun outside city limits but this arouses some questions. Whose property was this man on? His own property, state property or someone elses? Can anyone just go outside city limits and brandish a gun on anyone's property?

That's because they didn't need to tell you anything.

The police did everything right. The baricaded the roads, and no one could get in or out. The guy just left before they got there.

And, there is no reason to say he was "at large" or even a "gunman."

At no time did he threaten anyone. Or put anyone in danger. He did flew the police or anything like that.

He shot a gun LEGALLY.

this was a single person firing a gun...unfortunately he was seen by a safe, concerned citizen and now you're all worried about "bad news".

How sad. Let's pray that what ever sent this man into that cornfield is resolved and he doesn't wait for night fall and then terrorize my neighborhood. This is scary.

How soon you forget the incident on N. High Drive at the apartments. Had the entire force there to capture some bad guy and he slipped out the back door. Oops.

Last I heard he was seen out towards Bear Lake Road.
With the helicopters,dogs,swat team and all those police officers out there they should have been able to pick him off by now.

Law enforcement authorities called off a search this afternoon after failing to find a man who reportedly fired a gun northeast of Hutchinson.
