Nothing like a good deep breath of fresh bug spray to make life worth living in Hutch. By the way on a serious note, how far away does the city have to stay away if you post a no spray sign?

"A mosquito bite" is not even close being the experience we lived with before the spraying began. As I recall it was so bad "Cliff" wrote a letter to the editor just to comment on how nasty it was to visit here. Not everyone wants to spend the summer outside, maybe you are one of those types so do not know just how bad it was. Those of us who do enjoy some fresh air have had a direct increase in quality of life now that we can, with out being swarmed.

Are you telling me the " QUALITY OF LIFE " in Hutch depends on a mosquiotoe bite? Maybe they are putting more in that spray than we think, if life gets sooooo much better after a spraying.

I don't know about EW but I have been thinking about West Nile. The natural food chain suggests the strong, intelligent survive. The difference in the quality of life in this town after spraying and before is HUGE. Our summer is so short, let us have the ability to enjoy it!

EW have you even thought of the chemicals we are breathing in thanks to the spray? yes it's nice to not have mosquitoes but at what cost? tax, health, the natural food chain?! Is it even enviromently freendly chemicals? anyways just food for thought maybe the board would have been a good thing.

jeez, if you guys 4 miles from Hutch are benifiting than you should be paying more taxes!! Yea the rain has allot to do with it but I can invest $10 in meosquito-be-gone and finish the parts of the yard that the city missed. The pests for the year are gone.

Hutch has done such a wonderful job spraying for mosquitos, that even at our house which is 4 miles from Hutch has none. Or could it be when we have a short fall of rain we don't have hatches of the little cridders. Last year was the same way, council was so busy patting themselves on the back for keeping the mosquitos at bay they didn't notice we were in the worst draught since the late 80's. No rain no mosquitos. If we got 10" of rain, the city could spray straight DDT and you will still have mosquitos.

I can only hope that 'agreeing not to establish a mosquito control board' doesn't mean an end to spraying for them. Spraying for the last few years has truly made the summers enjoyable.

The Hutchinson City Council handled a wide range of business at its July 22 meeting. Among the items it discussed and took action on are:

• accepting the 2007 city audit;

• adopting a mixed-use district ordinance for the area near the intersection of State Highway 7 and 15;

• agreeing not to establish a mosquito control board;

• setting a public hearing for four improvement projects;

• setting ceremonies and open house for several recently completed public works projects, and

• setting a public hearing for changes to the city charter.
