Tuesday, Sept. 9, is Primary Election Day in Minnesota.

In a primary, voters narrow a field of candidates for the general election. All eligible voters — including people not affiliated with any political party — may participate in the primary. However, when making their selection of partisan candidates, primary voters must choose among candidates belonging to a single political party throughout their ballot and may not crossover to vote for a candidate belonging to any other party.

Voters will be given two ballots: one partisan and the other nonpartisan.
