Unfortunately there are not

Unfortunately there are not a lot of places where you can purchase radio kits anymore. There are still a few kits out there but the cost is generally as much or more than a pre-built radio. Just type radio kits in your search engine.
I would recommend that you look into purchasing an old radio and then repairing it. Good repairable used radios can be had very reasonably.
It is important to remember before you can transmit on any amateur band you need to have a license for that band. This is why we hold classes. If you would like to attend one contact Roger. It usually takes a few sessions before you will be ready for your test.
Is there a kit like at

Is there a kit like at radioshack or something. That you can build your own Ham radio? I think that would be a fun project.

I can speak on both of those

I can speak on both of those subjects.

First of all, thanks to Gene for bringing the Minnesota Poker League to Hutchinson and making it the great draw it is in this city. I only wish you the best in your new endeavor and know that whatever you do, you will be successful at it.

Secondly, about the Elks, I cannot fault the Elks members for not being able to run the second tournament. The Elks does the vast majority of their charity work over the summer months, and the members are spread very thin. And while I greatly enjoy being in charge of running the Elks league, I was going to be very busy as well.

I have asked for and received the help desired to run the next tournaments, and the Hutchinson Elks looks forward to welcoming back all of our players in early September of this year. Please keep tuned to The Hutchinson Leader website for all of the updates as to when we will be starting back up. When we resume play we hope not only to have our existing players, but some more new faces as well. The last tournament we ran, we averaged 70 players per week, which was in the top 5 in the state.

For those of you thinking about giving live Texas Hold'em a try or for those of you who have never played but are curious to learn, we encourage you to stop down when we start up. You will not find a group of more friendly people who are willing to help those who are new learn the game. The age range of players that I have checked in goes from 21 to 80. I have seen groups of friends who come down, fathers and sons, and mothers and sons so it is a great family/group activity and a nice night out.

And we owe all of that to Gene, who had the vision to bring this great game to town. Thanks again, my friend, and we'll see you at the final table!

Good Luck and "May you always FLOP the NUTS" Gene!
It's just to bad no one at the Elk's would step up to the plate to run the second six week tourney.
