I think you forgot the most important one.

Leave the pot and Michelob at home!

It is a sad story but I am willing to bet if he was clean, the little guy would still be around.

Snowman, you and I and many

Snowman, you and I and many others would like to know where the DNR (who is always short of funds) can come up with the money. I heard Gov. A Plenty came up with the idea and told the DNR we are going to do this. A couple of months earlier they didn't have any money for a State Park in Meeker County. Maybe they are going to tap the road and bridge fund for this new park...or maybe??? Just maybe they won the lottery!!

I would like to understand how the DNR plans to purchase this, and maintain it for years to come?

All I ever hear from the DNR is how they do not have any money, and all of a sudden they have millions for a new park. Sounds a little fishy to me.....

Cougar sitings will continue

Cougar sitings will continue I bet, and officials/DNR will keep denying their presence until the cats get so bold it's obvious. When outdoor pets become missing, and there's cases of human contact, officials will start confirming. They don't want to scare the public. Some would find the zillion-to-one chance of being stalked and ambushed by a cougar, hit from behind at 40 mph causing blunt trauma, your scalp pulled back and ripped off, maybe neck broken, organs eaten first, body covered with leaves for a future meal scary. Go figure. From what I know, cougars are usually loners, with up to 100 mi territory they've staked out, patrolling and marking it in about 6 days. Radio collered cougars have been found to observe houses with pets for days, noting human comings and goings. You never know they are watching, as they are stealthy ambush predators. So WHY DID THE COUGAR CROSS THE ROAD? He was stalking the bicyclist up ahead, of course. only kidding. :) LJ

Why did the Cougar cross the road? In hindsight that would have been a good headline. Can you identify my vehicle? That would be amazing. Did you see anything? I recently realized that the land the animal would have come out of is State conservation land. You know, the only reason that I posted it on this site is because I didn't know what to do and if I lived in Judson Woods or Woodview Acres, I would definitely want to know! Our home borders Millers Woods and I have heard in the past someone reported seeing a Mtn Lion in Millers Woods. My husband and I didn't believe it. We are believers now. Not that one lives in Millers Woods or anything but that there are Cougars in the area. Really if there are known packs as near as eastern South Dakota, how hard is it to believe they can be here? Thanks for your post!

We are new to MN...I'm a Biologist...have followed the cougar progression in Boulder, CO. I've been telling my family that this area seems adequate for cougar. (So much prey available, diverse habitat.) Now there are unconfirmed cougar sitings, and what's REALLY funny is that I believe I was that biker you saw on Tagus when the cougar crossed the road. LJ

that's too bad. i was hoping the stinky fish would take people's minds off of the rv parking. it's also too bad, because all of the dead fish gave the kids in hutchinson something to do. i never seen so many kids poking dead fish with sticks before. hmmmm do we pay money to watch a crappy movie.....do we waste 8 bucks on an overpriced mini-golf course.....or do we poke dead fish with a stick? 9 times out of 10 i would pick the fish.

Drought has killed fish in

Drought has killed fish in these numbers before according to one longtime resident. He said if water is really low when the ice forms, fish have been killed due to low oxygen levels in the remaining water.

He remembered it because the last time this happened the dead fish washed up on his shore in the spring. Neighbors helped haul out truckloads of dead fish.

Did fish in the river ever die like this in the past? Like during a drought period or anything like that?

I have to say, I have never seen fish dead in the river like that before. Hopefully it will start smelling better now if we have a good wind to push the smell out of there.

Dead fish clean up is underway at Hutchinson's dam. Truckloads of fish are getting scooped up and put into the back of a waiting dumptruck. Fire hoses are spraying water to corral the fish into a concentrated area to make scooping easier.

I'm referring to peanuts

I'm referring to peanuts post - if it resembled a timber wolf then it might have been a coyote which would look like a mangy dog. However if it was more feline then it could have been a mountain lion.

Yeah there is a big

Yeah there is a big difference between the coyote and cougar/mountain lion. She remembers the important details like his snout/face area and the tail so I don't think questioning what she saw should be an issue. The scary thing is that she saw that in the area around Hutchinson. I'm wondering if it has something to do with the lack of rain and the fires and dry conditions. I have seen a coyote before and it reminds me of a gray dog, not a cougar. Aren't the cat species closer to the ground too?
