Clock ticking to the mandated coming of digital TV

If you are in the approximately 25 percent of Minnesotans still getting television program through a roof antenna connected to a television with an analog tuner, you could be looking at a blank screen on Feb. 18, 2009.

Congress has mandated Feb. 17, 2009, as last day for the full-power television stations to broadcast in analog. After that, over-the-air TV broadcasts will only be in digital.

Program offers children free airplane rides

The area chapter of EAA hosted Young Eagles Day at the Hutchinson Municipal Airport. Children ages 8-17 had the opportunity to go on a free airplane ride. Volunteer pilot, Dick Freeman, gave Claudia Hovendick, 8, of St. Cloud, and Lucas Bobier, 14, of Hutchinson, a ride above town Saturday.



Calling all Indiana Jones fans!

If you're an "Indiana Jones" fan, mark midnight Wednesday, May 21, on your calendar. Century 9, 766 Century Ave., Hutchinson, is planning a midnight screening of this much-anticipated summer film. Regular showings will begin Thursday, May 22.

'Speed Racer' disappoints at the box office

We're only the second weekend into the summer movie season and already we have a disappointment.

The leap from popular TV cartoon to big screen movie doesn't guarantee box office gold as "Speed Racer" proved this weekend.

According to Box Office Mojo, "Iron Man" continued its grip on ticket sales ringing in another $50 million. "Speed Racer" came in second earning $20,210,000, barely sneaking past "What Happened in Vegas," with $20,000,000.


Writing your personal memoir

Interested in writing your personal memoir, but having trouble getting started? Author Abigail Thomas's book, "Thinking About Memoir," lays out ways to get started. To help, she also includes writing exercises that help shape a personal history.

Thomas knows what she's talking about. She is the best-selling author of the memoir "A Three Dog Life," named a Best Book of 2006 by the Washington Post and the Los Angeles Times.

Experience the Luce Line Trail in a new way at 10:30 a.m. Fridays, beginning May 30 through June 27.

Karen Schierman, director of Enso Spa’s Institute for Wholistic Living, will lead with walkers listening to a reading about nature, walk for 60 minutes (according to desire and ability) and then regroup for a discussion about the walking experience. T

The sessions are free and the public is welcome, but donations will be accepted with the collected money going to the Luce Line Trail Association. For more information, call Genesis Salon at (320) 587-7117.

Meet 'Once Upon a Mattress' director: Jeff Fahey

It’s not easy juggling responsibilities, but that’s exactly what Hutchinson native Jeff Fahey is doing. He’s finishing his music education classes at Northeastern Illinois University in Chicago, while preparing to direct the Hutchinson Theatre Company’s summer musical comedy “Once Upon a Mattress.”

Fahey will be in town next week to conduct auditions. Tryouts are scheduled from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Monday and Tuesday at Peace Lutheran Church in Hutchinson.
