The Crow River Chapter of International Association of Administrative Professionals will meet Tuesday, Feb. 5, at Hutchinson Technology Development Center. The meeting begins with networking and dinner at 5:30 p.m., followed by the program at 6 p.m. and a business meeting at 7 p.m.

Gil Castaneda of Avery Dennison will present a seminar titled “Get Organized.” He will provide tips on managing incoming information, organizing e-mail and computer files, establishing order in the workplace, and organizing multiple people. A free sample packet will be provided for each person attending.

Guest speaker will be Kathleen Skarvan, president of Disk Drive Components Division, Hutchinson Technology Inc. She will speak on the importance of good communication skills for today’s leaders.

The public is invited to this meeting to learn more about Toastmasters, and to find out how Toastmasters Communication and Leadership program can help those who want to be better speakers and leaders.

Free early childhood developmental screenings will take place from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday, Feb. 8, at Christ the King Church, 1040 South Grade Road, S.W., Hutchinson.

Early childhood screening is performed by nurses, teachers and professionals in the school district. Screening helps parents identify if their child has any health problems, vision or hearing loss, and find help with development, speech or learning problems. Early childhood screening is mandatory before children start kindergarten.

Boy Scout troop 587 will serve their annual all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 10, at Vineyard Methodist Church, 1395 S. Grade Road, Hutchinson. The menu includes homemade blueberry pancakes, scrambled eggs, sausage, applesauce, juice and coffee.

Meals are $6.50 for adults, $4.50 for children ages 6 to 12, kids five years old and under eat free.

In addition to a business meeting, volunteer training in preparation for natural disasters or single family disaster assistance will be conducted.

She will talk about her joyful journey through life despite disappointing detours, and will give a special feature on tea parties.

Special feature is Scott Skalberg of LItchfield, who will share his knowledge of bird seed, feeders and houses. Sara Dollerschell of Litchfield will provide special music. Special speaker is Jan Yonak of Monticello, a social worker who became whole after learning to appreciate her special strengths and gifts.

The Red Cross bloodmobile will make the following area stop:

All blood types are needed. Type O and all Rh negative blood types are especially needed. Type O negative is a lifesaver in that it can be transfused to any blood type and is especially useful in emergency situations when there is no time for blood testing or cross-matching.

Residents of the Minnesota River watershed are invited to attend the next quarterly meeting of the Minnesota River Watershed Alliance from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 19 (Tuesday) in the main room of New Century Charter School, 45 W. Highland Park Drive N.E., Hutchinson. The Watershed Alliance encourages landowners and recreational users to be part of this effort to improve and protect the Minnesota River Watershed.

The Litchfield Rescue Squad and the Meeker County Amateur (HAM) Radio Club are sponsoring a class for obtaining a technician class amateur radio operators license. Classes will be from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 19, Friday, Feb. 22, Thursday, Feb 28, Tuesday, March 4, Monday, March 10, Thursday, March 1, and Tuesday, March 18 at the Rescue Squad Building, 214 N. Miller Ave., Litchfield.
The cost is $30, payable at the first class, and covers the cost of a “Technician Class License Manual.”

An AARP refresher class will take place from 1 to 5 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 20, at Hutchinson Event Center, 1005 State Highway 15 S., Hutchinson. A fee of $13 is charged for the class, and registration and payment is due by Wednesday, Feb. 13.

Completion of the class may entitle seniors to a 10 percent deduction on auto insurance for the next three years.

Mark Schnobrich, Hutchinson city forester, will present a free horticulture seminar at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 23, at the Home, Landscape and Garden Show at the McLeod County Fairgrounds, 840 Century Ave., Hutchinson.

Schnobrich will speak on the topic, “Trees — how to plant properly, and woody agriculture in 2008 and beyond.” He will explain how to plant trees to ensure their optimum health, prevent tree-root girdling, and new ventures in woody agriculture.

The seminar is sponsored by the McLeod County Master Gardeners and the University of Minnesota Extension.

Meeker County and the Crow River Area Amateur Radio clubs are sponsoring a free weather spotter training class from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, March 1, at the Eagles Club, 389 County Road 34, Litchfield.
Todd Krause of the National Weather Service will provide general spotter information followed by Metro Skywarn amateur (Ham) radio procedures.
The training is open to the public and provides an opportunity to certify or re-certify for a Metro Skywarn number.
Lunch can be ordered from the menu or a cold meat sandwich plate will be available for $5.
