A ceremony honoring Minnesota’s former prisoners of war will be at 10 a.m. Friday, April 4, in the Veteran’s Administration auditorium, building 8, St. Cloud. Twenty-eight former POW’s including those who are patients at the VA, will be recognized for their dedication and service to our country.
William Ryan, a Vietnam veteran and Paynesville resident, will be the featured speaker. Many of these veterans will receive the Minnesota World War II Memorial Dedication Medallion during the program.

Glencoe-Silver Lake Early Childhood Family Education is having a morning of imagination and fun. Art Stravaganza will be from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Saturday, April 5, in the Helen Baker ECFE Addition in Glencoe. Preschoolers and their parents are invited to create with paper, glue, paint, yarn and molding materials. Wear old clothes and bring a box to carry home your child’s treasures. A class for rental property owners will take place from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, April 10, at Hutchinson Police Training Center, 46 Washington St. S.E., Hutchinson.
The class will teach marketing plans, such as establishing goals, determining a target audience and how to efficiently use available marketing vehicles.
Drug awareness will be taught by the Hutchinson Drug Task Force and will provide information on identifying potential drug problems at a property.

McLeod County Chapter of the American Red Cross will have its annual meeting at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 10, at the Red Cross office, 902 State Highway 15 S., Hutchinson. The entrance is at the back of the building and the meeting is on the second floor.

Guest speakers will be Deb Radi, who will speak on the Red Cross response to the 35W bridge collapse and Dave Kelley from Blood Services.

An informational meeting for anyone interested in becoming a resource family for McLeod County has been set for 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 15, at the Health and Human Services Building, 1805 Ford Ave., Glencoe.
The meeting will allow people the opportunity to ask questions about the McLeod County Foster Care program and decide if foster care is right for them.
Additional meetings are scheduled for April 22 and 29. Attendance at all meetings is mandatory for families who wish to complete the foster care licensing process through McLeod Social Service Center.

Disabled American Veterans will sponsor a free Veterans Information Seminar at 9 a.m. Saturday, April 19, at the National Guard Armory, 1200 Adams St. S.E., Hutchinson.

A national service officer from the Disabled American Veterans office at Fort Snelling will discuss recent changes to benefits and services, provide claims counseling and filing assistance.

Veterans are asked to bring their VA claim numbers and social security numbers to the seminar.

Beverages and rolls will be provided prior to the seminar, and lunch will be served at 11:30 a.m.

The Minnesota State Council of the Knights of Columbus will have its 28th annual Tootsie Roll drive to aid people with developmental disabilities on Saturday, April 26.

The Tootsie Rolls will be available at Cash Wise Foods, Econo Foods, Wal-Mart and ShopKo.

A freewill donation for the Tootsie Rolls is appreciated.

The second annual Memorial Asthma Walk in memory of Beto Hinojosa will take place Saturday, April 26, at Oak Leaf Park in Glencoe. Registration begins at 9 a.m. with the walk starting at 10 a.m. Fifteen-year-old Beto Hinojosa died as a result of an asthma attack Aug. 24, 2005. His family is from Glencoe.

A spring clean-up is scheduled for the Bohemian National Cemetery at 9 a.m. Saturday, April 26 (weather permitting). The cemetery is eight miles east of Hutchinson on State Highway 7, in Rich Valley Township. This is before the detour.

The new Sons of Norway lodge, the Kråkeelva Lodge or Crow River Lodge, will be officially inducted into the Sons of Norway at a dinner at 5:30 p.m. Sunday, April 27.
The Kråkeelva Lodge serves the tri-county area of Meeker, McLeod and Wright counties, and offers people the opportunity to celebrate their Norwegian heritage in monthly meetings.
The induction dinner will include several local dignitaries as well as local and international leaders of the Sons of Norway. The dinner will be torsk or chicken with all the extras.
