One strategy for being successful in retail is finding a niche not being served and then filling it. Janice Heintz thinks her new Cities Collections shop in downtown Hutchinson succeeds in doing that.
“Everyone coming in says Hutchinson needed this,” she said.
The store, which opened recently in the former Corson’s building at 40 Main St. S., is what Heintz calls an upscale resale store selling name-brand, gently worn designer clothing for both children and adults. Cities Collections also has gently used furniture, household goods, shoes, purses, new and used jewelry and collectibles. But she doesn’t deal with electronics or appliances.
“I’ve been thinking about this for a year. Then I saw Jill’s (Corson) sign up and approached her about trying it for six months,” Heintz said. “Jill had wanted (the building) to stay retail, especially clothing. It was perfect. She even had all the hangers and racks.”
For now, Cities Collections’ hours are limited to 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday and Friday. For more information, call (320) 587-2324.
