Hutchinson
The interest and enthusiasm in the race for City Council is inspiring. There are fancy signs and articles that promised reduced taxes, new revenue, budget scrutiny, etc. But, forget campaign rhetoric, relationships and personal desires for a minute. Step back and consider what Hutchinson needs to move into the future.
It was eye-opening to study the 2007 financial statements and 2008 budget for Hutchinson. It changed my thinking about the potential of the City Council. Hutchinson operations are $130 million in expenses, $300 million in assets. We have grown from a small town to a significant-sized enterprise. The council needs to continue to evolve and mature to effectively oversee something this large. It needs more council members that:
• can bring disciplined processes to ensure value-for-the-dollar and sound future investments,
• have expertise in standard business practices and top-down planning/budgeting,
• have the experience and creativity to continue to move the council and city forward.
I have the business experience, education and a proven 40-year track record. I can help.
When you go to vote Sept. 9, stop a minute, take a deep breath and ask yourself — Who can best manage “my” investment, assets and expenses of over $430 million?
