Police chief presented with flag

Sgt. 1st Class Tim Wettstein, an Iraq war veteran, presented Hutchinson Police Chief Dan Hatten with a special American flag during the police department’s station meeting Thursday. The flag was flown over Convoy Support Center Scania, Iraq, on Dec. 15, 2006, the 17th anniversary of the death of Hutchinson Police Officer Mike Hogan. Hogan, a Vietnam War veteran, was killed in the line of duty. Police Lt. Dave Erlandson had kept the flag since early 2007 so that Wettstein, who was serving in Iraq, could present the flag to Hatten himself. Mayor Steve Cook and Hutchinson City Council Member Kay Peterson attended the ceremony.
