Here’s a preview of stories found in the print edition of the Tuesday, Oct. 6 Leader:
• Gubernatorial hopefuls were in Biscay Saturday for the McLeod County DFL’s Fall Festival.
• Fewer inmates have been staying in the McLeod County Jail this year, in a trend Sheriff Scott Rehmann wants to see continue. The jail, once busy enough to require frequent outboarding of inmates, has 35 beds. State guidelines deem its capacity at 28 inmates. Rehmann said the inmate count this year has hovered between 20 to 28 inmates.
• If anyone expected the Hutchinson City Council’s town hall meeting on the 2010 budget last week to be as raucous as recent congressional meetings on health care, they went home disappointed. Wednesday’s two-hour session at the Event Center was long on numbers and overhead presentations, but short on dissension and attendance. A polite audience of six residents (only three of whom spoke) outnumbered the five council members.
• A Green Isle native wants to donate a half-ton of potatoes to the McLeod Emergency Food Shelf. The only question is where to put them all.
• About two dozen people greeted the arrival of a short Minnesota Prairie Line train in downtown Winthrop Tuesday afternoon, Sept. 29. The one-locomotive, three-railcar train was ending the first of a three-day whistle stop tour to the 16 cities along the railroad’s 94.7 miles of track between Norwood Young America and Hanley Falls.
• In Sports: Friday’s bout between Hutchinson and Holy Angels 55-0, but to fully understand how dominating the Tigers football team was, numbers are necessary.Hutchinson touched the ball offensively eight time in the first three quarters. All eight times the Tigers scored rushing touchdowns and not once was a fourth down needed.
• Since January, members of Bethlehem United Methodist Church in Hutchinson have been planning their 150th anniversary celebration, which begins Saturday. Learn the details in Extra!
