Tuesday’s Leader is a combined issue of both the Tuesday and Thursday Leader and contains all the features normally found in both papers. It also contains a bonus section: Season's Greetings. Here’s a preview of stories found in the print edition of the Tuesday, Dec. 22 Leader:
• The new archery facility at the McLeod County Fairgrounds is producing benefits for archers and taxpayers.
• With less than a month to go before a state-set deadline, Hutchinson School District 423 and teachers’ union Education Hutchinson haven’t reached a deal on their next two-year contract.
• Betty Nielsen just wanted to help in the kitchen when she took a job at Park Elementary School 36 year ago. This week, she is retiring after spending many years as assistant to the superintendent of Hutchinson School District 42.
• Kevin and Kathleen Finstad don’t work in law enforcement, but the McLeod County Sheriff’s Office honored them Friday for acting like deputies.
• Seven local businesses failed tobacco and alcohol compliance checks conducted by Hutchinson Police Services last week.
• “First ice, best ice,” is the anglers’ slogan, but it definitely leads to problems. Ice can be tricky stuff because the thickness often varies depending on where you are. Columnist Bill Resman has the details in Outdoors.
• In Sports: Mankato West has ended the Hutchinson football team’s season the past four years, including this past fall 13-6. So excuse the Tigers for celebrating a bit following Thursday’s 52-51 victory.
• There’s a whole lot of outdoor holiday lighting and decorating going on in our area. Read about all the area holiday events in Extra!
