Plans for a 51,000-square-foot building along State Highway 7 west of Hutchinson Manufacturing have changed, prompting a need for a new conditional-use permit, variance and site plan. Those are being requested at Tuesday’s Hutchinson Planning Commission meeting by Daggett Ventures.
Atomic Crane will build large cranes for nuclear power plants. The company’s plans now call for the building to rotate 90 degrees from what the city previously approved so that it faces the highway to the north, rather than the Best Western Victorian Inn to the west.
That change would require a variance for a 10-foot side yard setback on the east property line. Neighboring Hutchinson Manufacturing Inc., owned by Tom Daggett, a partner in Atomic Crane, will provide some parts for the cranes. The city’s planning staff recommends granting the requests.
The meeting begins at 5:30 p.m. in the council chamber of City Center, 111 Hassan St. S.E. All Planning Commission recommendations go to the City Council for final approval.
