The biotechnology field continues to experience rapid growth and development as the science around healthcare, agriculture, and energy evolves. Part of that growth includes expansion of government regulation, policies, and legal issues surrounding biotechnology.
In response, Ridgewater College has developed a new, online course, BIOL 195 – Biotechnology Regulations. This 3 credit course will focus on several aspects important to those involved in biotechnology, including functions, areas of regulation, and laws enforced by the EPA, FDA, and USDA as well as other US agencies; international regulations; patents and intellectual property issues; quality manufacturing, lab, and clinical practices; quality control; reading, writing, and understanding standard operating procedures (SOP’s); and safety with hazardous materials.
This online course is being offered beginning spring semester 2010. BIOL 195 is open to registration by the general public – individuals can enroll as casual students. For more information on the class, contact Lori Anderson, Biology instructor, at (320) 222-5585. To register, call (320) 222-5213.
