With the coming retirement of County Treasurer Linda Radtke on the horizon, the McLeod County Board is weighing its options.
Radtke will retire effective Dec. 31. Her position is currently an elected office and her term would have ended January 2011.
According to County Attorney Mike Junge, there are six possible paths:
• maintain the position as an elected office, and appoint a replacement for the balance of Radtke’s term,
• combine the treasurer with the auditor’s office and keep it an elected position,
• combine the treasurer with the auditor’s office and make it an appointed position,
• keep the treasurer position as a separate office and make it an appointed position,
• create a combined auditor, treasurer and assessor position. Whoever were to fill this position would have to be eligible for licensing by the Minnesota Department of Revenue.
