Library adult winter reading program launches Monday, Jan. 5
“Discover a real treasure — READ!” is the title of the seventh annual adult winter reading program at the Hutchinson Public Library, 50 Hassan St. S.E. It starts Monday, Jan. 5, and runs through Saturday, March 14.
Last year, a total of 218 people participated. According to head librarian Mary Henke, that was the most participants — ever.
To take part, readers register at the main desk and receive a punch card. For each book read, a short rating form must be filled out and then the punch card is marked. Prizes are awarded after reading four, eight and 12 books.
“This year, we’re offering a tote bag as an alternative prize in addition to the mugs for reading the first four books,” Henke said. “Some of our patrons who have participated for several years have told us they can’t fit one more mug in their cupboard. 3M has also donated some prizes for us to give out such as Scotch tape, T-shirts, and Post-its.”
Readers who complete the 12-book requirement by the deadline will also receive a ticket to a special invitation-only evening of entertainment with a dessert buffet at the historic Hutchinson Public Library.
“With the economy in a downturn, reading and using the library to borrow your books and videos makes more sense than ever,” Henke added. “Can’t afford a vacation to get away — read a book and your adventures are endless.”
The reading program is free — you only need a library card.
