With Thanksgiving just a week or so away, many are probably asking “What to serve?”
When it comes to wine shopping, it helps to know the basics. Where to learn them? The monthly Liquor Hutch Grape Vine wine club, Thursday, Nov. 20, at the Best Western Victorian Inn in Hutchinson. Registration takes place from 6:30 to 7 p.m. followed by winetasting from 7:15 to 9 p.m.
At Thursday’s Grape Vine, Les Hill, fine wine director at Phillips Wine and Spirits, will share nine vintages: Buehler Vineyards White Zinfandel, Sterling Vintner’s Collection Riesling, Chateau du Montfort Vouvray, Hess Lake County Sauvignon Blanc, Calina Reserva Carmenere, Buehler Vineyards Zinfandel, Abbaye De Saint-Ferme Bordeaux, Buehler Vineyards Cabernet and Scharffenberger Brut with Scharffen Berger Chocolate.
“These are wonderful wines for the Thanksgiving holiday,” said Candice Woods, Liquor Hutch manager. “We usually don’t do white zinfandel, but this one is very good and a drier style. This is a wine that everyone can appreciate.”
According to Woods, the riesling is about the same sweetness level as the white zinfandel. “It, too, is a wine everyone can appreciate.”
If you’re serving turkey on Thanksgiving, Wood recommends serving a vouvray. “In my opinion, it’s the perfect wine with turkey," she said. "It’s French and very food friendly. It enhances the flavor of turkey.”
