It’s natural for some fans to question the notion of an all-female AC/DC cover band. After all, AC/DC is probably the manliest rock band of all time.
Aside from that weirdo in the schoolboy outfit (lead guitarist Angus Young), the band looks like a bunch of pub brawlers. Former lead singer Bon Scott used to sing a catchy ditty boasting about his big … um … gonads.
Then he literally drank himself to death. That’s macho!
Now, consider Jamie Noga, a 1997 Hutchinson High School graduate who fronts Hell’s Belles, a nationally known all-girl AC/DC tribute band.
When you talk to Noga, she’s seems like a sweet and polite lady. Coming from a strong Christian upbringing, she uses the word “blessed” a lot to describe the good things and people in her life.
Her onstage persona, Jamie Nova, is a different character. If you watch her perform — www.hellsbelles.info/promo.htm has several live videos — you’ll see her become the living embodiment of rude, crass, politically incorrect, good-time rock ‘n’ roll.
To paraphrase a quote once attributed to the late Scott, Jamie is neither AC nor DC — she’s the lightning bolt in the middle.
Find out more about how Noga, a self-described “sheltered” child, became a “Problem Child,” see the Leader's Oct. 2 print edition.
Below, you'll find live video of the Hell's Belles performing AC/DC's “Thunderstruck.”
