What to do this holiday weekend?
Think local.
< For many people, it’s a chance to catch up with home and yard work. For others, it’s last minute shopping for school supplies and after-school snacks.
< If you’re one of the few people who haven’t seen the No. 1 movie of the summer and second highest grossing movie of all time — “The Dark Knight” — it’s showing at Century 9 in Hutchinson.
< Weekend weather predictions include cloudy skies and a 30 percent chance of rain on Labor Day. This means you may want to look at the sky before heading outside for activities.
< Local parks offer tables and grills for picnics.
< Hutchinson’s Luce Line Trail is available for walking and biking.
< Dassel offers three days of Red Rooster activities. Labor Day is when volunteers serve up their famous barbecued chicken. It’s a rain or shine event, so if you’re looking for good eating, head to Red Rooster Days.
< Get ready to rumble — and rock at the 20th annual Minnesota A.B.A.T.E. rally. It runs Friday through Sunday at the Meeker County Fairgrounds in Litchfield. Entertainment includes headliner group Jackyl, which will perform Saturday night. Friday’s entertainment schedule features “Monsters of Mock” such as Zed Leppelin, Free Fallin and Wheel in the Sky. Sunday’s performers include Full Tilt, Marshall Star, and Debbie Jackson and Thunder Road. A weekend pass to the rally is $45 for members and $65 for nonmembers, while a one-day pass is $35.
