This Saturday, the McLeod County Museum will launch its fall Spotlight on the Collection series with a special one-hour presentation on quilting by Laura Elwell.
Elwell started quilting after she retired from Hutchinson Technology Inc. in 2001. A friend suggested to her, they take a class on making cloth backpacks offered in St. Cloud. “I took the class and fell in love with all the fabrics,” Elwell said. “I became totally addicted.”
As a quilter, Elwell likes the challenge of working with textiles. “I also embellish with a lot of beads,” she said. “There are some pieces where I’ve used acrylic paints to create designs. It’s a form of artistic expression. It’s just amazing to me. There’s something in it for everyone.”
