Someone puncturing tires with syringes
May 20, 2008 - 2:42pm — Terry Davis
Tires on at least six vehicles were punctured in Hutchinson the night of May 14-15 by someone who apparently used some sort of large syringe. Three incidents took place within a few blocks of each other, south of downtown, according to reports made to the Hutchinson Police Department. In one case, involving two vehicles in the 400 block of Hassan Street Southwest, a victim told police that he had seen a thin man, about 6 feet tall and wearing a gray backpack. In that case, the witness reported at 3:30 a.m. that he heard a hissing sound and found a tire on a 2001 Ford and a 1992 Jeep Cherokee had been punctured. At 6:30 a.m., tires on two vans and a pickup parked outside a boys group home in the 400 block of Grove Street Southwest were found punctured. The third report came in at 1 p.m. A tire on a 1999 Ford pickup had been punctured. The total loss for all six tires was estimated at $720. (Terry Davis is a Hutchinson Leader staff writer.
