Three proposed commercial projects received favorable recommendations from the Hutchinson Planning Commission Tuesday night and will head on to the City Council for final approval next week.
But issues did surface for some commissioners about one proposal — a planned towing service and impound lot at 1203 Main St. N., next to the Outpost gas station. Commissioners wanted part of the lot paved, felt the building needed upgrades, and wanted access off of North High Drive verified.
“I have concerns about the outdoor appearance of this structure,” Commission Chairwoman Lynn Otteson said before voting to recommend that First Class Towing owner Gordon Evenson be granted a conditional-use permit.
“When the roundabout is done, that Highway 15 access is going to be a right-in, right-out only,” City Engineer Kent Exner added.
In other action, the commission also recommendationed the council grant a conditional-use permit to Scott Haag to build a car-detailing shop at 205 Monroe St. and approve of a site plan submitted by Robert Wendorff to build a 6,100-square-foot building at 6 Franklin St. N.W. It will house his insurance business and the Flinn/Mach dental practice.
