A Red Cross blood drive collection is scheduled from 1 to 7 p.m. today, (Tuesday, Feb. 3) at the Silver Lake American Legion, 241 W. Main St.
To make an appointment, call (800) 448-3543.
All blood types are needed. Type O and all Rh negative blood types are especially needed. Type O negative is a lifesaver in that it can be transfused to any blood type and is especially useful in emergency situations when there is no time for blood testing or cross-matching.
βIn other to meet patient needs, we need every eligible donor, regardless of ethnicity, to come out and donate blood,β Red Cross North Central Blood Services Region CEO Geoff Kaufmann said.
Healthy individuals who are at least age 17 and weigh at least 110 pounds may be able to donate blood. Donors are eligible to give blood every 56 days, or approximately six times a year. A photo ID is required.
Sixteen-year-olds can donate with a signed Red Cross parental consent form and two forms of identification. To download a consent form, go to givebloodgivelife.org.
