LETTER: Editorial on Guard, Reserve was well-received

I read with great interest the Leader’s editorial on the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act (codified at 38 USC 4301 et seq) in today’s newspaper. I am the leading attorney in the country for members of the military who need to enforce their rights under this law. I have won or successfully settled more USERRA cases then all other attorneys combined. I have appeared before Congress twice and had the pleasure of helping Sen. Barrack Obama draft a bill (S 3242) that would improve USERRA.

I look forward to the day when I need to file for unemployment because no member of the military is calling me anymore because no more violations of USERRA are occurring. The Leader’s editorial and the hard work of Bob Benshoof will help bring that day closer.

Keeping the issues of civilian employment in the limelight will help protect members of the military from unlawful discrimination. I congratulate you on supporting USERRA and praising Mr. Benshoof. Our national security depends on members of the National Guard and Reserve and those members must depend on their civilian employers. USERRA protection is a matter of national security.
