LETTER: Pornography threatens families, even in Hutchinson

Filed under:

From Arnie Boich
Hutchinson

Have you noticed what is happening in Hutchinson?

The ability to get adult pornographic videos and movies has increased dramatically in the last decade, and it’s all legal, just so as long as you are 18 years old and you know where to get it. Cable TV, the Internet and now even some stores are succumbing to this great temptation, and people seem to think that it is no big deal.

The word “family entertainment” has now lost all sense of meaning. American families are in greater danger than ever before. Pornography has and will continue to destroy families and destroy societies.

Pornography is the seed that leads to all kinds of sins. Adultery, rape, abuse and even murder have been linked to pornographic material. I ask you to not do business with any store or industry that promotes this kind of material. I have a difficult time already when I go into video stores and try to find videos for my family because of the pornography displayed in “R” rated and even “PG-13” and some “PG” movies. But to go online, watch TV or to go into a store and to realize that my dollars are used to support a business that rents X-rated movies — that is going too far for me.

The Bible says to flee all sexual immorality. It also says that if you even lust in your heart that it is the same as committing adultery. The great King David of the Bible repented of this sexual sin. But before he did this it was apparent that he had fallen into lust, committed adultery, and even committed murder.

Pornography is a trap that leads to moral destruction, and even spiritual and physical death. Please don’t do business with any company that sells pornographic material. But if you do need to do business there, let them know that you do not appreciate the pornography that they sell.

Well, Arnie, recognizing your addiction is the first step to recovery. I wish you luck.

At least I have a conscience. There are a lot of people who don't even care what their eyes see. Their eyes are seered and their hearts are hardened.

Truth? What is truth? Truth is the Word of God. "For all have sinned and fallen short of the Glory of God" That is truth.

If it bothers your conscience to look at such things that you say are bad, why do you keep looking at them?

Back to page top

I do not keep looking at such things. I'm just saying that pornography is such a common place in our society that sometimes it gets in your face and is disturbing because of the ills that it brings society. Not many people will take a stand against such sin because, as you have noticed in this blog, people will attack your stand and try to put you down.

Usually those that put you down are the ones that need the most help. I feel sorry for them because of their ignorance to things of God.

We all struggle with sin, but God is a merciful God and provides a way out. It's called grace. We just need to accept His forgiveness and grace and He will help us through the most difficult of situations.

Thank you for your concern.

The availability of...

Back to page top

The availability of pornography is not a problem...it is a result of the fact that people are sexual beings who seek outlets to express their sexuality. For many people, masturbation is the primary sexual outlet and pornography enhances this practice. Yes, there is abuse in the pornography industry, and in some cases it may fuel mentally ill people to act out, but sexually explicit material is much like tobacco, alcohol, religion, television...use if if you choose to, don't go overboard...ignore it if you don't want it. If there is no demand, stores will stop selling it.

Back to page top

You make the use of pornography like eating a piece of candy. Get real! The use of pornography in America and in the world is staggering! Pornographic revenue is larger than all combined revenues of all professional football, baseball and basketball franchises.
US pornographic revenue exceeds the combined revenues of ABC, CBS, and NBC (6.2 billion) Child pornography generates $3 billion annually. ( http://www.not-for-sale.us/pornstatistics.htm )

It's a very serious problem that leads to all kinds of sin! Sin leads to spiritual and physical death.

Your reasoning is very foolish. Come on... you can do better than that!

Nice, and I thought I was the only one who listened to "Rust In Peace".

One of my fav songs. I'm talking about "Holy Wars" not "Holier than thou". It's a sin that Metallica even put out all the albums after "...and Justice For All".

Your references to sin and...

Back to page top

Your references to sin and biblical injunctions don't mean much those who use rationality to determine correct and incorrect actions. I don't think sexuality is sinful, it is just a fact of the human condition. The fact that people crave sex is morally neutral. Humans should choose to seek don-destructive sexual outlets, because acting responsibly helps society thrive. Using erotic imagery can be part of a healthy sex life and does not generally lead to physical or mental harm.

Yes, pornography is a huge business! Perhaps we could reduce demand by fostering loving, mutually satisfying interpersonal relationships throughout society...by raising our children to be caring, generous partners and supporting troubled families to try to keep them intact. Sex with a consenting, caring partner is always better than masturbating with pornography...but is not always an available option.

Thanks for replying. I do...

Back to page top

Thanks for replying. I do understand what you are talking about and agree with what you said. Many children grow up without having a loving relationship from their family, and we do need this more in our society. Even as adults we sometimes do not receive the proper love from our spouse or our friends, but I do not agree that sex before marriage will solve the problem.

As you see, I truly believe in a just and Holy God... not a hateful God, but a merciful God full of compassion and righteousness.

I believe that Jesus Christ came to this earth to die for our sins and that He rose from the dead to give us everlasting life to all who believe in Him.

Because He conquered death and sin... we can have victory over our sin, and even victory over death itself.

We do not have to fear His righteous judgment. We simply need to ask for His mercy and receive His forgiveness.

I truly believe in this because it is Truth.

I hope you understand where I am coming from and do not falsely judge me as some others have in this blog.

Thanks again.

donutsmakemybrowneyesblue submitted the second reply to the letter I sent to the editor and he implied that I was a sex addict.
I realize that he was just trying to bait me and that he was mostly being sarcastic, but the comment still made me feel hurt, because his comment is not true.

Just a word of advice, if your feelings are going to be hurt by someone such as donuts, maybe this isn't the place for you. No offense intended.

I'm getting some information put together locally here in Hutchinson and am waiting for return phone calls and will reply as soon as I get the info. Thanks.
