Woman dies of apparent self-inflicted gunshot
June 3, 2007 - 7:19pm — Terry Davis
A Hutchinson woman apparently fatally shot herself after a short stand-off with police late Saturday night, June 2. A man placed a 911 call to Hutchinson Police Services about 10:43 p.m. saying a woman had barricaded herself in a bedroom at a home in the 400 block of Rose Lane. Police were told she was possibly suicidal and was in possession of guns. Hutchinson Police were joined at the home by officers with the McLeod County Sheriff’s Department and the Minnesota State Patrol. Negotiations began with the woman. Officers heard what they believed to be a gunshot from inside the bedroom at about 10:53 p.m., followed by a second shot about 13 minutes later. Residents of the neighborhood were asked to leave the area for their own safe until the situation was secured, police said in a press release Sunday. The Hutchinson department’s special response team entered the home about 2:43 a.m. Sunday and found the woman in the bedroom with what is suspected to be a self-inflicted fatal gunshot wound. The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension has been called in to assist with the investigation now under way. The name of the victim has been withheld pending notification of family.
