State Colleges' State Fair booth highlights information for displaced workers

» Read similar stories filed under:

Information about short-term training and education programs offered
by the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities that can lead to new
careers for dislocated workers will be featured at the system’s State
Fair booth.

Through its 54 campuses, the system's colleges and universities provide most of the training for dislocated workers in Minnesota and can help them move into new careers. Many programs take less than a year to complete and lead to entry-level jobs or higher-level jobs for
individuals who add credentials in their fields. Many of these programs are available online.

Fairgoers also will be able to see how Second Life, a popular virtual world, is used for educational purposes. Other booth features include prizes that will be awarded once an hour to fairgoers who spin the "Wheel of Luck" and a blog about activities in the system’s booth, available at www.mnscu.blogspot.com.

State college and university presidents and members of the Board of Trustees, along with college and university representatives, will be on hand to discuss educational opportunities.

The booth is in the Education Building on Cosgrove Street near the fair’s main entrance.

The Minnesota State Colleges and Universities system comprises 32
state universities and community and technical colleges, including Hutchinson's Ridgwater College, serving the
higher education needs of Minnesota. The system serves about 250,000
students per year in credit-based courses and an additional 140,000
students in non-credit courses.
