Meeker County Sheriff's Office investigates gun threat

A member of the Dassel Township Board was reportedly threatened Tuesday night (March 11), according to the Meeker County Sheriff’s Office.

At approximately 8:40 p.m., the sheriff’s office received the report that during the Dassel Township annual meeting, an man called the board member’s home. A family member answered and the caller asked for the board member by name.

When the caller was told the board member was at the meeting, he replied with a statement to the effect of, “Oh no, he should have stayed home, because there will be guns at the meeting.”

Deputies responded by posting security at the meeting, searching the building and grounds, posting a deputy outside the building, and several others deputies in the area during and after the meeting.

An investigation is under way, although the meeting continued without incident. Anyone with information on this case is encouraged to call the Meeker County Sheriff’s Office at (320) 693-5400 or (800) 333-3366. The sheriff’s office also has anonymous TIP line at (320) 693-5411.
