‘Gilligan’s Island: The Musical' to be on TV, opens Thursday

KSTP Channel 5’s Twin Cities Live will feature Hutchinson in its “Get Outta Town” segment, airing from 3 to 4 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 6. Producer Melissa Specken explores all that Minnesota’s Hometown has to offer, including a behind-the-scenes look at “Gilligan’s Island the Musical,” a trip to the Little Crow Archery Range and a stop at Zella’s restaurant.

Hutchinson Theatre Company’s production of “Gilligan’s Island: The Musical” opens tonight with additional shows scheduled for Friday and Saturday, Nov. 7-8, and Thursday through Saturday, Nov. 13-15. It takes place at the Peace Center, 400 Franklin St. S.W., Hutchinson. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. with dinner at 6 p.m. and the show at 7 p.m. Tickets are $30 and include dinner and the show. They can be purchased online at www.hutchtheatre.org, or at the Downtown Clothing Company in downtown Hutchinson.

Hutchinson High School’s fall musical, ‘Anything Goes’

Thanks to the musical, “Anything Goes,” Cole Porter’s songs “You’re the Top,” “I Get a Kick Out of You” and “Anything Goes” have become part of the great American songbook. These popular songs as well as others like them will light up the Hutchinson High School auditorium stage tonight through the weekend as “Anything Goes” begins its public run. The play is showing at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 30, 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 1, and at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 2. Tickets are $5 for students and $7 for adults and can be purchased at the high school and at Cash Wise. For more information, call the school office at (320) 587-2151.

An extravaganza of school spirit Friday capped a week of Hutchinson High School Homecoming festivities. The action included a pep fest, including the ever-popular rock, paper, scissors contest and other friendly competition.

The Homecoming Royalty were crowned, students took the afternoon off for some outdoor games, such as ultimate Frisbee and capture-the-flag. The parade followed and this year’s Wall of Fame honorees were inducted.

Wednesday morning, an extra-wide load with an attached second trailer drove through the roundabout at the intersection of State Highway 15 and North High Drive with relative ease. The key to driving it safely? As you approach the roundabout, yield for traffic on your left. Once in the roundabout, don’t stop.
