After placing sixth in the Missota Conference opener at Fountain Valley in Farmington two weeks ago, the Tigers boys’ golf team had one goal Tuesday — get back in the race.
With an eighth-place finish at Stonebrooke Golf Club in Shakopee, getting back into the top half of the conference is going to be a challenge.
Hutchinson shot a team score of 346 — 33 strokes behind host Shakopee. The single point earned in the conference race leaves the Tigers tied with Farmington for seventh.
Hutchinson placed third a year ago, but returned only two varsity members this season.
With the win, the Sabers moved past Prior Lake and Red Wing for first place with 15 points. After the two challengers with 13 points, New Prague rounds out the top four with 10.
Senior Michael Kephart continued to lead the team with an 81, while Mitchell Cowger ended with an 87.
Hutchinson hosts the home invitational at 2 p.m. at Crow River Golf Club Friday.
