One down, one to go.
The Hutchinson boys' tennis team is one victory away from clinching its second conference title in the last three years. All that stands in the way - rival Red Wing.
The Tigers defeated Shakopee 6-1 Thursday, winning in straight sets at all four singles positions and at No. 1 and 3 doubles. Hutchinson is 12-0 all-time against the Sabers since they started a program in 1998.
Northfield and Holy Angels also won to keep the logjam at the top of the Missota. Along with Hutchinson, all three teams are 5-1. The Raiders play Shakopee (2-4) Thursday, while Holy Angels takes on New Prague (0-6).
After two years of beating Red Wing 4-3, last year the match went to Hutchinson 5-2. So far this season, the Wingers are 4-2 in the conference and 13-4 overall. The match is at 4:15 p.m. at Hutchinson High School.
