The Tigers girls' hockey team had high expectations this season, but no one expected a win over Missota Conference favorite Holy Angels. Two nights after falling to New Ulm, 4-2, Hutchinson upset the 11th ranked Stars, 3-1.
The win over the Stars is the first in program history. Holy Angels had won 17 straight conference games dating back to Jan. 23, 2007.
Fallon Macemon, Lauren Kirchoff and Sara Carlson all netted goals for the Tigers. Carlson's goal came on a penalty shot with 33 seconds left in the second period.
Laura Carlson added two assists, moving her within one point of tying Mackenzie Ludowese for the all-time career points lead at Hutchinson.
Hutchinson goaltender Zandra Floeder played her best game of her career, making 30 saves in the win. The Tigers were outshot 31-9 for the game.
The Tigers have been outscored 65-2 by the Stars in six meetings the past three seasons.
