All-Star games aren't usually billed as defensive showcases. Thursday night's North Star League All-Star Game was a perfect example of that.
The two teams combined for 24 hits and 13 errors as the North squad topped the South 13-10 to even the all-time series record at six games apiece.
St. Michael's Chris Volkmann was named most valuable player after finishing the game 3-for-4 with a two-run blast, double, three RBIs and two runs.
Ben Jungers of Maple Lake was the winning pitcher, while T.J. Ahlid of Maple Plain took the loss.
Of local interest, Brian Meuleners was 1-for-2 with two runs and a RBI. Justin Juergensen was 0-for-2 with two strikeouts. Hutchinson pitchers Corey Ryks and Adam Padrnos were not available to pitch.
Ryks, the projected starter, had arm stiffness for the second straight day.
That allowed Dassel-Cokato pitcher Jordan Danielson to get the start on his home field - he didn't disappoint. Danielson threw three shutout innings in the no-decision.
Saints hitters Brent Opsahl and Dan Birkholz both went 0-for-2.
Maple Plain's Andy Engebretson won the home run derby.
Hutchinson is back in action at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday against St. Michael.
