Hutchinson had little trouble from non-conference foe Annandale, winning the home opener 3-0 to improve to 2-0 on the season.
The scores were 25-11, 25-14 and 25-18.
A balanced attack that saw eight different players record a kill, Hutchinson had no trouble in the first game, extending a 4-3 lead to 12-3 with Mackenzie Piechowski at the serve. When Annandale was able to get into system, the Tiger defense at the net was relentless.
Senior Carissa scored the final point on a kill for the 25-11 win.
The story was the same in game two. Hutchinson wasn't as sharp offensively, but the defense forced the Cardinals into numerous mistakes. A combo block from Hahn and Kayla Tronick won game point at 25-14.
Annandale (1-1) only trailed 9-8 in game three, but following a timeout the Tigers picked up the play, extending the lead to 17-12 on a Tronick kill. Piechowski's slam on a pass from setter Katie Maher won match point at 25-18.
Laura Carlson led the balanced attack unofficially with seven kills and two ace serves, while Tronick had six kills and three ace blocks. Gladys Bonnema led the team with eight set assists, while Mandy Polocco had seven assists.
Hutchinson hosts Northfield in the conference opener at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
