Hutchinson High School’s music students did very well at Friday’s Region 2AA Solo & Ensemble Competition at Dassel-Cokato High School. They participated in 47 events and received 34 superior ratings, 10 excellent ratings, two good ratings and one fair rating. View slideshow.

The Holiday Extra is an annual tradition in the region. The paper is published by the Leader and Leader Shopper folks and delivered free to homeowners in the 20 cities around Hutchinson.

Prices received by Minnesota farmers for Corn for October averaged $3.75 per bushel, a decrease of $1.16 from the September price according to the U.S. Department of Agriculature, National Agricultural Statistics Service, Minnesota Field Office. Soybeans were down $3.00 to an October price of $8.00 per bushel.
The all hog price for October was $53.40 per cwt., a decrease of $1.70 from the September price. The all beef cattle price for October was $84.20 per cwt., a decrease of $3.50 from the September price.
Minnesota is well-prepared for record voter turnout on Election Day according to Secretary of State Mark Ritchie. He attributes this readiness to the removal of a number of unnecessary barriers to voting by his office and careful preparations made by county and local election officials, including the hiring and training of over 30,000 election judges. In addition, high voter interest has been fueled in part by highly visible candidates who inspire the electorate.
Hutchinson city and rural route residents will receive the popular "Meet the Hutchinson Business People" special section in the Sunday, Oct. 26 edition of the Leader Shopper.

U.S. Rep. Collin Peterson flew into Hutchinson today to make several stops including the Leader office. The 7th District Democratic Congressman is up for re-election in a few weeks, and is challenged by Republican Glen Menze of Starbuck.
Peterson recently opposed the $700 billion Wall Street rescue plan. He said people of the district agree and are angry about the bailout. “They feel like these guys were just a bunch of thieves and it just goes against their nature to help them out,” he said.
