Rushing attack leads to fourth straight win, 34-7

Trailing 7-0 after an opening drive touchdown from Shakopee, Hutchinson scored 34 unanswered points to win their fourth straight game and fifth overall, securing at least one home playoff game and extending the winning record streak to 37 straight years.

Jacob Brusehaver rushed for 97 yards and three scores, while Jaedon Scott and Brad Muckenhirn added one touchdown each. Scott led the team with 148 yards on the ground before leaving the game late in the third quarter after getting dinged up earlier in the game.

A victory over winless Red Wing Wednesday would secure the No. 2 seed in Section 2AAAA.

With starting quarterback Max Timm out with a broken arm, Shakopee switched to the single wing formation, directly snapping the ball to back Willie Dellwo, or one of 12 other guys that touched the ball in the evening.

The formation threw off the Tigers on the opening drive as Shakopee went down the field on a nine-play, 48-yard drive. Dellwo finished off the drive on a one-yard plunge, but a 30-yard run by Dylan Ulferts and two completions from quarterback Scott Hauer to Tyler Williams also covered 16 yards.

Hutchinson's defense stiffened the rest of the way, giving up yards, but no more scores. The Tigers offense took advantage.

Down 7-0, Seth Hintze went through the air on the Tigers opening play, hooking up with Muckenhirn for 38 yards. However, the drive stalled at midfield. But Hutchinson got the ball back one play later on a tipped pass that was intercepted by Muckenhirn.

Three plays later, Brusehaver rumbled in from eight yards out for the 7-7 score. He later added a one-yard score for the 13-7 score.

After stopping Shakopee deep in Tigers territory with 1:30 left in the half, Scott got the Tigers downfield fast on runs of 10, 17, 12 and 5. Following a timeout, Hintze threw a good ball into the end zone where a receiver was interferred with, resulting in a 15-yard penalty.

Two plays later, Hintze rolled out to the right and found Muckenhirn in the end zone for the 15-yard score and the 19-7 lead. Scott barreled into the end zone for the 21-7 lead.

Scott added a four-yard score in the third quarter and Brusehaver scored his third touchdown of the game (11th overall) on a five-yard run in the fourth quarter to seal the win.
